Summer weddings, the great outdoors and your outside venue space

I thought I’d talk about ways you can use the outdoor space at your wedding reception – I mean, the sun is shining and my thoughts are well and truly on summer weddings.

For those of you awesome couples that are planning a summer wedding and have already started praying and crossing your fingers and toes for a sun-filled day, you might have started to think about how you’ll incorporate your outdoor space into your wedding.

Outdoor games and escort cards

Whether you have gorgeous grounds or an entire field at your disposal, your outdoor space is screaming out for a drinks reception. Team with some music (whether that be of the jazz, string quartet or steel pan variety…or anything else that rocks your boat!), delish signature cocktails (one of my July wedding couples are having The Travelling Gin company – it’s going to be epic!) and some outdoor games or a photobooth area to keep your guests entertained. How about stringing your escort cards from a large accommodating tree and encourage your guests to mingle as they discover where they’re sitting during your wedding breakfast?

Outside wedding breakfast, anyone?

One for the wedding risk-takers (maybe I’m reading too many Australian blogs featuring sun filled weddings!). How about having your wedding breakfast outside? You could keep it formal with a seated served meal or mix it up a bit and create more of a relaxed vibe with some food and drink vans.

Marquees and chill out areas

If this is a step too far but you love the idea of being closer to nature, then modern marquees are simply amazing. They come in all shapes and sizes, and if you’re looking to truly bring the outside in, some even have clear ceilings and clear sides that can be removed if the weather is doing its thang!

Another way to incorporate the great outdoors into your wedding day is to create a chill out area for your guests to enjoy during the evening reception. Set up some comfy armchairs and sofas with some low chilled out lighting for your guests who need a rest from the dancefloor with a glass of fizz in hand.
