Grooms - The coloured wedding suit edition

I've mentioned my pre-Heart Shaped Weddings life a couple of times on these pages, so I thought it was about time I wrote a few words dedicated to one of my loves – Men's suits. And in this case, a style and wedding day trend aimed squarely at the most fashionable of grooms and the one that today's heart shaped spotlight is shining on, is colourful and bold make-a-statement groom's wedding suits.

I love nothing more than seeing how daring the groom has been and how he’s put his personality right out on show when it comes to his wedding suit.

I'm under no false illusions here – ordering a brightly coloured groom's wedding suit that is a long way from being grey, black or charcoal isn't always going to be the obvious choice! But, WOW! There’s nothing that floats my boat more than a groom that really "brings it" on the colour front!

Bold coloured materials are definitely for the uber confident man who wants to stand out on his big day just as much as his bride – but hey, why the heck not?!

High street retailers have really stepped their game up when it comes to offering bold, colourful men's suits. Topman, Asos, Ted Baker and Reiss, to pick on just a handful, are currently stocking some pretty awesome examples - so grooms, get yourselves out there and get trying on!

It seems that retailers are designing colourful suits with the more fashion-forward chap in mind, so you'll find the vast majority will be found in on-trend skinny and super-skinny fits. They'll be super close fitting, have shorter jackets than you’d find on a regular suit and have narrow lapels and pocket flaps. Trousers are slightly shorter than what you might consider to be “normal wedding suit length” and they’ll be pretty snug in all areas too!

Worth bearing in mind, though...while every retailer will offer a suit labelled "skinny fit", these fits will vary between them.

So don't discount a skinny fit suit for your wedding day attire just because the first one you tried on was too tight – you might just find one that fits elsewhere.

Skinny fit suits aren’t just the reserve of the high street - If your budget can stretch, how about really splashing out and treating yourself to a bespoke tailored suit, made just for you? The very best way to get just the right bold shade and just the right fit for you!

If you love the idea of breaking the grey/black/charcoal coloured mould, but a complete groom's wedding suit in a bold colour is a stretch too far, consider adding flashes of bright to your wedding outfit – a bright jacket with neutral chinos…pair some colourful trousers with a crisp white shirt and a flash of colour with a matched tie or bowtie.

Your bride isn’t the only one who's allowed to wow your guests with her outfit on your wedding day.
